Emily May is a Jazz singer from Devon who vocally draws inspiration from Billie Holiday, encapsulating the finesse sounds of a smoky jazz club. May can take you to the 1940's with her technique, resembling the vocals of a jazz standard. Emily May creates her own Neo Soul music that draws influences, from Jazz, Folk, Bossa Nova and Psychedelia to create her own unique sound. Having performed at many different venues across the South and South West, she has proven herself as a captivating performer whose music naturally comes into a new light on stage. Her lyrics are soulful and come from different topics such as overcoming struggles to finding contentment within your state of mind.
Emily is currently studying Music production and performance at University where she is part of the Jazz collective band, frequently performing with them. May's latest track Necessity was released on the 28th July 2023 onto all major streaming platforms, which features a Sax solo from a collaboration with another student in college. It has a strong message about self love in order to pursue your dreams and live your life to the fullest. The chorus features some French lyrics: 'Amour De Soi' which means self love.
BBC introducing played the track twice on Radio Solent and once on Introducing the South West Show. Additionally, the track is regularly played on the morning show on Rádio Armazém in Brazil!
